I've been quilting for several years, and explored making other crafty things. After making one bag, I found myself addicted. Then I discovered other people love bags as much as I do! Making them is fun and it's even more fun to give them away, so here is a gallery of bags I have given to friends, family and readers, as auction donations, prizes and gifts. Check back because I will keep adding pictures to the wall over time.
Jody Allen with a wool purse that she won on Cigars in Feb 2009. Nice of her to carry my book around in it! The wools came from an Old Navy Sweater and vintage Blazer that I bought at the thrift. No pattern, I just played around and made this one myself.
Sarah Mayberry, Blaze and Superromance Author, as well as my good friend and crit partner, with my bags down in Australia! One is a red-plaid, wool Charlie bag (BurdaStyle.com) with two little black cat silhouettes on the front (including shiny beaded collars). Sarah says she likes the red bag for library trips. I also sent her a colorful little over the shoulder tote made with Amy Butler Fabrics and a LazyGirl pattern.
This is Estella's little book bag, also won on Cigars, and it's the first bag I ever made. :) Estella's bag is made from 100% cotton and batting, from a Better Homes and Garden's pattern. I love BHG patterns.
Jody Allen with a wool purse that she won on Cigars in Feb 2009. Nice of her to carry my book around in it! The wools came from an Old Navy Sweater and vintage Blazer that I bought at the thrift. No pattern, I just played around and made this one myself.
This is a bag I made for my friend Vivian's birthday in Oct '08 -- I made her a stuffed bird ornament with a beaded hanger and and a set of potholders in the same fabrics. I filled the bag with some other goodies, too. She enjoyed it.
The first Charlie Bag I made (www.burdastyle.com) and it's a very sturdy little bag -- courdoroy on the outside, canvas inside with a small pocket and snap shut. Great for toting all my electronic stuff, books, misc when traveling, etc.
A plaid canvas tote for the inlaws. If you look closely, you see that the bag is cleverly disguising "Ninja Man" (our nephew), hiding behind it and holding it up... He kind of blends in, but that's what Ninja's do, right?
A picture of the little wool clutch I made for my sister's birthday. The squares are Batik. The rest of the purse is made from recycled Pendleton wool, with a polyester lining and zipper.
Heather with a bag I made for her from a wool sweater. Heather asked me what a sweater bag was, so when she won a bag on our Cigars blog, I new this would be a good choice. Ends up, she loves red as well! Perfect.
This little bag was given to Jen/Aliquis, on Cigars in March 2009 as a contest prize. I was in the mood for spring colors, and luckily Jen agreed and loved the color scheme, too. It's a little cotton bag with canvas straps and a snap closure, no pattern, just putting it together on a whim. It does look springy, doesn't it?
A simple tote I made for Cigars pal Jeannie Watt, my own basic design. Jeannie lives out in Nevada, so I knew this fabric, a thick weave from a skirt that I bought at the thrift, would make a great bag for her. Look at those mountains!
This is a cotton patchwork tote I made from a BH&G pattern, and I love how cute my Cigars pal Dee looks with it!
Robyn won this colorful little canvas tote on Cigars, and I have one just like it. :) I thought it was perfect for summer!
Intrepid Karen Foley holding a sunny bag I made her for her birthday on a misty New England day.
A pretty dragonfly bag and a book for my pal Cari Quinn! :)
Ami Weaver won this pretty blue bag made with Amy Butler fabrics for her generous bid on the Brenda Novak Juvenile Diabetes Auction -- thanks Ami!
